We are excited to welcome Shelley Nurre as the new principal of Foster Elementary School. Shelley has a strong background in education with a proven history of guiding schools, supporting students, and working closely with staff and families to build positive, high-achieving school communities.
Shelley has served as an elementary principal in the Springfield School District for the past six years, where she focused on building a shared vision, supporting professional learning communities, and implementing systems that help students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. Shelley has extensive experience leading Title 1 schools and working closely with teachers and families to create positive school environments.
Before that, Shelley was a program director for the Gresham-Barlow School District, where she led a K-12 therapeutic and behavioral program. She developed clear goals for staff and students, coached teams, and improved program outcomes through effective communication and collaboration. Shelley also managed special education programs for multiple elementary schools, overseeing staffing and resources to ensure strong student support systems.
Shelley’s background also includes hands-on experience as a special education teacher and behavior specialist, where she supported students and staff, coordinated positive behavior programs, and helped design social skills instruction.
In addition to her leadership roles, Shelley has owned and operated childcare and preschool programs, managed curriculum coordination internationally in Japan, and continuously pursued professional development in instructional leadership and student support strategies.
We are excited to have Shelley join the Foster family and lead our school with her collaborative, strategic approach and focus on student success. Please join us in giving her a warm welcome!
