School Closure Information
The Sweet Home School District uses an internet-based system for delivering changes in schedule, such as snow/weather closures, to the news media. For information on school closures or delays, you may listen to KFIR – 720 AM, KGAL – 1580 AM, KRKT – 99.9 FM, KXPC – 103.7 FM or view TV channels 2, 6 or 8 in Portland or Channels 9, 13 or 16 in Eugene.
This year, message delivery is being extended directly to the public through a system called FlashAlert. You are now able to self-register and manage up to five home or office email and/or cell phone text message addresses and receive emergency information just minutes after we post it, at no cost to you (depending upon your cell phone provider). If text messaging is not included in your plan, your cell phone provider may charge a few cents for text messages (currently 10¢ per message with Verizon).
To have the messages sent to your cell phone(s), please use the appropriate format below:
To register, go to FlashAlert.net and in the left frame, select “subscribe to receive news from participating organizations.” Enter your primary email address twice. On the next screen, under “Add an Organization,” choose the “Willamette Valley” region, then “Linn & Benton Schools”, then “Sweet Home”. Click on “Subscribe”. Below that, you can enter up to four more addresses. When you are done, click “Update Email Addresses and Send Test Messages.” A verification message will be sent to each of your listed addresses. You may also enter regular email addresses and have the information sent to your computer.
Text message address examples:
- Cingular: (10 digit cell #)@cingularme.com
- Nextel: (10 digit cell #)@messaging.nextel.com
- Sprint: (10 digit cell #)@messaging.sprintpcs.com
- T-Mobile: (10 digit cell #)@tmomail.net
- Verizon: (10 digit cell #)@vtext.com
Please be aware that with the proliferation of spam and the resulting spam filters, it is impossible to completely guarantee message delivery, since different filters block different messages. After adding or changing email addresses, have test messages sent to verify they will pass through your mail server’s filters. All addresses registered on FlashAlert will remain confidential and shall not be released to any person or organization. Once a year, you will receive an email at your primary address asking if you wish to continue your subscription.
