Clubs / Activities
Sweet Home Junior High offers students the opportunity to participate in a number of interesting after-school clubs. The clubs are seasonal; many run on different days so students can join more than one. All clubs are free to join (although optional perks, like a club T-shirt, require fees). The following clubs may be offered this year:
Outdoor Club – Outdoor club exposes students to life long activities that take advantage of the outdoors. Activities include snowshoeing, canoeing and hiking. Advisors Mr. and Mrs. Holden help students construct their own pair of snowshoes! This club runs the entire school year.
Guitar Club – Advisor Mr. Mithen meets with students interested in learning to play the guitar. Students have the opportunity to display their skills at an assembly at the end of the year.
Drama Club – Advisors Mrs. Wieland and Mr. Gold work with interested students to put on a special play each year. Students learn about all aspects of drama and theatre tech. The club concludes with the performance of a different play each year.
Hip on Herps – Hip on Herps is a unique opportunity for students to work with reptiles. Students learn about all aspects of a particular reptile. Students then share the reptile, and their knowledge of it, with a difference audience. Mrs. Wieland and Miss Roe share advising duties.
Art Club – Students interested in exploring the world of art outside the regular classroom are encouraged to join Art Club. Students in Art Club work with Advisor Mr. Hagen in a T-Shirt business and earn the ability to take special art related field trips.
FOOTBAG CLUB - Advisor Mr. Buzzard invites students to join in some footbag fun and exercise after school on Tuesdays. No experience necessary. Learn basic footbag kicks and encourage one another to perform freestyle tricks and stalls.
GARDEN CLUB - Advisor Mrs. Clarno helps students to develop their "green" thumbs as they tend the school garden and green house. During harvest, students take home fresh produce.
ASTRONOMY CLUB - Advisor Mrs. Holden presents a facinating discovery of our solar system. Activities include night-time star gazing parties.
ROCKET CLUB - Advisor Mr. Wilson helps students study the science behind rockets. Students will have an opportunity to build and launch their own rockets.
