Dear Parents and Community Members,

As you may have heard and seen on the news, the Oregon Education Association (OEA) has called for a statewide “Day of Action” on Wednesday, May 8th. Some districts are planning “walkouts” to illustrate to the legislature the need for additional, adequate, and stable education funding.

Sweet Home School District will be having school. The Sweet Home School District does desire stable and equitable funding, and particularly needed funding to help support:

  • K-12 music and arts programs;
  • health, safety, and special needs of our students;
  • full funding for our college, CTE, and alternative education and dropout
    prevention programs.

We feel the best way to show support for these needs and other needs is to keep school in session, serving our students and families.

Our Sweet Home staff is determined to keep schools open to ensure students receive the educational programming they deserve and to limit the impact and disruption on our families and local businesses.

On May 8th staff will be wearing red to show unity and advocacy, but also to show appreciation for a Sweet Home Community that has supported us through bonds, levies, program fund-raisers, and extraordinary community projects like our amazing football field and fundraising for the auditorium.

The staff is organizing an after student contact time rally to advocate and appreciate. More information will follow as to when and where. You are welcome to join in!
